Best Shortstop Gloves

A shortstop glove should be small enough to get the ball out fast on a double-play turn and stiff enough to keep its shape on a hard one-hopper. Most high school and older shortstops use an 11.25 to 11.75 inch glove, usually with an open I-web or H-web so the ball is easy to find. Younger players should go smaller, and a 10-year-old who plays everywhere doesn't need a shortstop-specific glove yet.

How we picked: we compared the gloves listed on this page on size, web and leather grade, using the specs each maker and merchant lists. Checked Oct 21, 2026.

11.5-inch I-web shortstop gloves

The Wilson A2000 1786 and A2K 1786 are the same 11.5-inch I-web pattern in two leather grades. The A2K is the higher grade and is listed as extra stiff, so plan on a longer break-in. The Rawlings Pro Preferred 200 and Nike Vapor Elite are other 11.5-inch I-web options to compare.

Easier break-in options

If he needs a glove that's ready sooner, the Marucci Oxbow 11.5 is listed as soft, and the Heart of the Hide R2G 200 is Rawlings' ready-to-go version of its 11.5-inch pattern.

What size for younger shortstops?

Size down for a 9U to 12U player. A glove he can squeeze shut with one hand beats a pro pattern he can't close. Use a glove sizing chart by age as a starting point, then let him try it.

Stiff or soft?

Stiffer, higher-grade leather holds a pocket longer, which matters for a high schooler playing a full spring and summer. It also takes weeks of catch to break in. If the season starts next week, choose a softer glove or plan the break-in now. Our glove break-in guide walks through it.

Plays all over the infield? Our infield glove guide covers second and third base sizes too.
