Best Third Base Gloves

Third base is about reaction and reach more than a quick transfer, so most high school and older third basemen use a glove a little longer than a shortstop's, usually 11.75 to 12 inches. A stiffer glove helps on hard-hit balls down the line. Open webs like an I-web or single post work well. Younger players should size down and pick a glove they can close.

How we picked: we compared the gloves listed on this page on size, web and leather stiffness, using the specs each maker and merchant lists. Checked Oct 21, 2026.

11.75-inch third base gloves

The Wilson 1787 pattern is an 11.75-inch I-web, here in the A2K grade and the A2000 Spin Control. The A2000 1975 is another 11.75 I-web. For a single post web, compare the A2000 SuperSkin 1785 and the Rawlings REV1X FL12.

Does he really need a third base glove?

Before high school, probably not. Positions are assignments at 11, not identities, and he'll likely move around. One good infield glove in the right size covers short, second and third. Buy a position-specific glove once he's settled at third on a team that plays him there.

Break-in

Most gloves here are listed as stiff or extra stiff, so give it a few weeks of catch before he takes it into a game. Our break-in guide covers what works.
