The right fastpitch catcher's gear is the set that fits your daughter today and meets your league's rules. For a first-year catcher, start with a full fastpitch kit so every piece is sized to work together. For a catcher who has outgrown youth gear but isn't in adult sizes yet, look at intermediate pieces. For high school catchers, adult women's-fit chest protectors and leg guards are built for a softball catcher's frame instead of a boy's baseball cut.

How we picked: we compared the EvoShield fastpitch catcher's gear listed on this page on what each listing includes, its sizing and its women's or fastpitch fit. Check the exact model's size chart before you buy. Checked Oct 21, 2026.

First-year and younger catchers: start with a full kit

If she's new to catching, buy one kit instead of four separate pieces. A kit keeps the helmet, chest protector and leg guards in matching sizes, and it usually costs less than building the same setup piece by piece. Compare the SRZ-1 and G2S fastpitch kits by the pieces listed and the size options offered, not by the name on the box.

If her rec league or team lends catcher's gear, let her use it for a season first. Plenty of 10U kids try catching and move on. Buy once she wants to stay behind the plate.

In-between years: intermediate chest protectors and leg guards

The middle school years are when youth gear starts riding up and adult gear still swallows her. Intermediate sizing is built for that gap. Replace the piece that no longer fits first, which is usually the chest protector, and keep the rest if it still covers her properly.

Both chest protectors above are intermediate fastpitch models with a women's fit. The first is the Pro-SRZ 2.0 version and the second is the earlier Pro-SRZ. Put them side by side and compare the size charts, not just the generation number.

Lower leg guards for intermediate catchers

These two listings are lower leg guards in intermediate and fastpitch sizing. Make sure you know whether you're replacing a full leg guard or only the lower piece before you order.

High school and older: adult women's-fit gear

By high school most catchers know what they like, so build the setup one piece at a time. A women's-fit chest protector is cut for a softball catcher's torso, which matters when she's blocking a ball in the dirt and throwing to second on the next pitch.

Catcher's helmet

EvoShield sells the Pro-SRZ Catcher's Helmet for fastpitch catchers too, so it pairs with the women's-fit pieces above. If you want to spend less, the Pro-SRZ Solid is the lower-priced helmet in the same line. Measure her head, use the exact model's chart and check your league's equipment rules before you buy.

How to fit fastpitch catcher's gear

Fit before features

Have her try everything on together. She should be able to get into her stance, shift to block, pop up and throw without the chest protector sliding or the leg guards pinching behind the knee. Don't buy a size up to get two seasons out of it. Gear that moves on her doesn't protect her.

Use the exact model's size chart

Intermediate and adult are starting points, not ages. Measure her torso and legs and check the chart for the exact model on EvoShield's sizing page.

Check the rules and the condition

Check your league's current rulebook for required catcher's equipment, and look for the NOCSAE marking where the rules ask for it. Before every game, look over the shell, padding, straps and buckles. Replace anything that's cracked or no longer stays put.
