The best fastpitch glove is a softball pattern in the right size for her position, with a pocket she can close on a hard throw. Start with position, then size, then budget. A baseball glove isn't a substitute: softball patterns are built with a bigger, deeper pocket for the larger ball, and many fastpitch models use narrower finger stalls.

Pitcher's gloves

A pitcher wants a closed web so the hitter can't see her grip. The Wilson A1000 P12 and A2000 P12 are both 12-inch closed basket webs built for infield and pitching, and the A2000 is the step up in Pro Stock leather. The Rawlings Liberty Advanced is a 12-inch glove with a fully closed web.

Outfield gloves

The Wilson A1000 V125 is a 12.5-inch glove with a fully closed basket web and full grain leather, built for outfield and pitching.

Youth fastpitch gloves

The Rawlings R9 ContoUR is a 12-inch glove with ContoUR Fit, sized for youth fastpitch players, with an H-Web for the infield or outfield.

What size fastpitch glove does she need?

Infielders usually want a smaller glove so the ball comes out fast on a double-play feed or a throw across the diamond. Outfielders go longer for reach. Pitchers usually want a closed web so the hitter can't see her grip. Younger players should size down, not up. A 9-year-old with a glove she can't squeeze shut will drop more balls and enjoy it less.

Glove makers publish fastpitch size ranges by position and age, and they differ a little by brand, so check a maker's chart like the Rawlings fastpitch size chart and the exact model's listing before you order.

Webs and why they matter

Open webs like an I-web or H-web are lighter and let a middle infielder find the ball quickly. Closed webs hide a pitcher's grip and give a little more support on a hard-hit ball. For a corner infielder or an outfielder, either works. Let her try both if you can.

How much glove does she need?

A 10U player who's still trying every position doesn't need a pro-level leather glove that takes a season to break in. A softer, game-ready glove she can close on day one is the better buy. Once she's settled at a position and playing a long travel season, a stiffer, higher-grade leather glove will hold its shape longer.
