The Easton Hype Fire and The DUB share almost everything outside the barrel. Both 2027 USSSA models are two-piece composite with a 2 3/4-inch barrel, the 1.15 BPF stamp, ConneXion Max, an Opti-Flex handle, Easton's Gen2 soft knob and -10, -8 and -5 drops. The barrel is the difference
Easton describes the DUB Darkside's 2X Double Barrel as a lower-compression outer barrel that flexes across the hitting surface, paired with a lightweight inner barrel that governs performance at the USSSA limit. The 2027 Hype Fire USSSA uses a redesigned TCT barrel that Easton says widens the sweet spot and keeps barrel response consistent.
Both are built to hit the same certification limit. What changes is how the barrel feels and sounds, and that's personal. Have your hitter take swings with both if you can.
Swing weight
Easton lists the Hype Fire USSSA as balanced. For The DUB, Easton's own pages don't agree. The Darkside product page says balanced, while the comparison chart on Easton's Hype Fire page lists the DUB USSSA as power load. Treat the Hype Fire as the safer pick for a kid who's late on fastballs, and swing The DUB in the exact size before you buy it.

Easton lists the Hype Fire USSSA from 27 to 32 inches and the DUB Darkside from 28 to 32. If your player needs a 27, it's the Hype Fire. Easton lists the Darkside and the Hype Fire USSSA at the same price.

What is the DUB Darkside?
Darkside is a 2027 version of The DUB with the same Double Barrel tech. The chrome DUB logo and Darkside decal wear away with contact and show red graphics underneath. Easton says that's cosmetic and has no effect on performance or certification, and that it worked with USSSA so umpires don't pull the bat for changing graphics. Don't scratch it to speed things up. Easton says using keys or coins can void the warranty.

Last year's Hype Fire and The DUB are still around and worth a look if the size is right and the price is lower.

Which one should you buy?
For a young travel hitter in a -10, either bat is plenty. Get the right length, confirm your league allows the USSSA 1.15 BPF stamp, and pick the barrel feel your kid likes. Spending more doesn't buy a better swing.
